TAMIYA RENAULT 5 TURBO COMPETITION SPECIAL 1981 VINTAGE KIT
Released by Tamiya on October 15, 1981 and based on the same chassis as the VW Golf (#58025), this Tamiya Model is of the classic 80's Renault 5 Turbo.
The Lexan polycarbonate body shell was a Tamiya masterpiece, faithfully reproducing the Renault 5 hatchback lines with a separate hard plastic screw on grille and front bumper.
¬â€
Like its predecessor, the Renault shared many similar internal features, including the new FRP plate chassis with attached plastic nylon uprights, originally seen on the Lamborghini Countach 500 LP500S Competition Special (CS).
The mid-rear mounted motor gave a better balance to the car and handled better than its predecessors. To race, the car was very competitive, the RS-540S motor, driving through a bevel gear differential, providing ample power for beginners as well as the more experienced racer.
The Renault 5 Turbo will long remain very collectable and is a great display model.
