Join the next generation of small-scale performance with the Hobby Plus Speck-SCT.
Short course racing traces its roots back to the late ’60s and early ’70s, evolving from long-format desert racing when promoters recognized the need for a format that gave fans a full view of the action from a single vantage point. Visionaries like Mickey Thompson saw the opportunity to bring off-road racing into stadiums nationwide, where nimble mini trucks could go wheel-to-wheel, body panel-to-body panel, under the lights on Saturday nights at local fairgrounds and baseball stadiums. For many, places like Pomona Fairgrounds became legendary—where the smell of race fuel, pinned throttles bouncing off rev limiters, and nonstop fan engagement created an atmosphere unlike anything else in motorsports. That same spirit made its way into RC in 2008, when short course trucks exploded into one of the hobby’s most iconic classes. Now, Hobby Plus brings that legendary era roaring back—this time in a true 1/24-scale platform—with the all-new Speck-SCT.
We didn’t cut corners—we kept them sharp. The Speck-SCT maintains the same proportional relationship you’d experience between a buggy and a short course truck, making it a genuine 1/24-scale SCT designed with authenticity in mind.
Built on the race-proven Speck platform, the Speck-SCT shares over 50% of its components with the Speck-B while introducing purpose-built upgrades including new front and rear shock towers, redesigned bumpers, a clipless front body mount, a chassis stretched by 13.5mm, longer side rails, and an upgraded 37T 050 brushed motor.
But the Speck-SCT isn’t just built for the track. Influencers, media partners, and real-world drivers alike have proven the Speck platform can take serious abuse on and off-road. From concrete skate park punishment with RC Driver Online, to hands-on testing with SMRC, to big-air sessions with Fil at Poor Boys RC, the verdict is clear: the Speck series may be one of the ultimate low-cost bashers in the hobby today.
Starting at just $109.99 for the brushed version and $149.99 for the brushless edition, the Speck-SCT is built for everyone—from first-time drivers to seasoned racers, backyard bashers to competitive enthusiasts.
At the heart of the brushed platform is a robust 050 37T brushed motor. Surprisingly good torque at a fun top end speed and a cooler running option with the oversized spec. The power to weight ratio is a very nice blend. All inputs to the vehicle are wrapped with a FlySky 2-channel transmitter and FlySky ESC/receiver combo. With the FlySky system drivers can expect responsive, reliable control with a refined, “buttery smooth” driving experience.
Built to Perform
The Speck series was engineered with versatility in mind—from backyard bashing to competitive racing environments, the Speck delivers. Just a quick look and you’ll notice how robust each individual part is designed. This gives the basher peace of mind when sending it off your homemade ramps or local skate park. Racers will appreciate this design philosophy as well with having a tad more weight to it. We’ve found with our own testing as well as with reports coming back from many of our current Speck users, it’s more consistent around the track than its competitors and the added weight is likely adding to the consistent performance.
Small refinements also indicate an increase in performance. A revised transmission center gear no longer requires a break-in period. Slightly lighter shock oil gives a more confident landing off jumps and absorbs small bumps better. A a new Sidepin tire design just plain works on dirt, concrete, asphalt, carpet and foam surfaces. No more chasing the tire design for a specific surface. To top it off, we've stepped up to an .050 37 turn brushed motor that has amazing power to weight ratio.
We also have those key features that just make the Speck-SCT easy and fun. Features like the versatile battery compartment with common battery plugs for easy to find aftermarket batteries. The long travel / fully adjustable suspension with quick adjust threaded /oil-filled shock bodies for a fully tuneable experience. A robust 4-gear transmission with a hybrid metal/plastic equipped mod .5 pitch gears. The transmission is topped off with a sealed, 3-gear differential for more adaptability. Lastly, weight bias adjustments are achieved through battery placement and the front roll center can be adjusted based on your driving style, track surface and overall needs for any given driving condition.
