An off-road racing legend returns with the Kyosho Ultima Pro, the 21st release in the Kyosho Vintage Series. Inspired by the competition buggy originally introduced in 1988, this re-release combines authentic styling and construction with carefully selected improvements for increased stability, durability and easier adjustment.
The Ultima name first became famous after Kyosho secured a dominant first, second and third-place result at the 1987 World Championships. The subsequent Ultima Pro refined that successful platform with a flat aluminium main chassis and FRP upper deck, creating an effective balance between structural rigidity and controlled chassis flex.
This modern re-release combines the character of the original 1988 Ultima Pro with the longer front suspension arms and extended wheelbase introduced for the 1989 version. The result is a wider, more stable chassis that retains the unmistakable appearance and rear-motor handling of the original competition buggy.
The Ultima Pro uses a newly produced 6061 aluminium main chassis with an FRP upper deck. This double-deck arrangement provides the rigidity required for consistent handling while retaining an appropriate amount of chassis flex.
Long FRP shock towers increase available suspension travel, helping the buggy absorb bumps and maintain more consistent tyre contact across uneven off-road surfaces.
Long front lower suspension arms derived from the later 1989 Ultima Pro increase the track width and contribute to improved stability. The rear lower arms allow toe adjustment by changing the suspension bushings.
Front and rear turnbuckle links make it easier to adjust wheel camber and steering toe without removing the links from the vehicle.
The oil-filled shock absorbers feature gold-anodised aluminium bodies inspired by Kyosho’s original high-end racing components. Updated threaded adjusters replace the original clamp-style spring adjustment system, allowing spring preload to be set more quickly and precisely.
Fine Selection springs are supplied for both the front and rear suspension.
A ball differential is included as standard, delivering smooth limited-slip operation and predictable cornering across a range of off-road surfaces.
Universal rear driveshafts efficiently transfer motor power to the wheels while remaining securely connected during suspension movement and heavy landings.
The steering-servo position has been rotated 90 degrees compared with the original Ultima Pro. Combined with a revised servo-saver arm, this creates a cleaner steering layout and provides a more direct, linear response.
Ball bearings are used throughout the drivetrain and steering system, including the servo saver.
The larger 2.2-inch wheels increase the selection of compatible racing tyres available to the driver. The kit includes medium-compound front tyres and soft-compound rear tyres to provide stable cornering and controlled handling on rough surfaces.
New eight-hole wheels reproduce the offset and visual character of the original design. The original polycarbonate rear wing has been replaced by a flexible nylon wing with durable moulded wing stays, improving resistance to damage during crashes.
The chassis supports different battery mounting arrangements. A standard round stick-pack battery can be installed across the chassis or mounted lengthwise.
When using the lengthwise battery configuration, a suitable low-profile steering servo with a short front-to-rear dimension is required.

Important Note: This product is an unassembled RC kit. The radio system, steering servo, speed controller, motor, battery, charger, transmitter batteries and body paint are required separately. Check the dimensions of the selected electronics before installation.
